ZURICH DESDE LA VISION DEL CONSUL

  Hace cuatro meses que vivo en la ciudad de Zurich. [1] Es una ciudad muy ordenada con tranvías que van en todas direcciones; a veces por ello es una ciudad un poco ruidosa. En el verano la gente toma café o aperitivos en terrazas que siempre están mirando hacia adelante. A diferencia de los limeños; que, por lo general, toman el café mirándose a los ojos. En Paradeplatz, que tiene una estación de tranvía, están todos los bancos importantes de Zurich; que son fundamentalmente dos: el UBS y el Credit Suisse. Hay chocolaterías por todos lados. La más importante es la que se llama Sprungli. Aunque hay otras. En Zurich y en general en toda Suiza hay dos grandes supermercados: el Migros y el Coop . Serían algo así como un oligopolio de supermercados. Pero los precios de los alimentos son asequibles. HAITI NEEDS OUR HELP

In the wake of such force, death and destruction is tragically inevitable. However, the repercussions for Haiti , this small ill-fated Caribbean country, will be worse than almost anywhere else in the world, because of the long-term political, economic and cultural context that surrounds today’s natural disaster. There is a story often told among Haitians that when the Spanish came to Hispaniola (the small island shared between the Dominican Republic and Haiti) they surrendered Haiti to the devil in order to dedicate the Dominican Republic to God. When you consider their relative situations it is not hard to see why this myth is so commonly believed. Even before today’s tragic events Haiti was the poorest country in the western hemisphere.
